Scents and the City
I am slightly obsessed with smells and places. There are many ways to map a place, this map being a perfect example way of understanding and navigating New York City via one's olfactory system.
WIRED Magazine's 24 Hours of US Flights
I also happen to love lights and airplanes, so what could be better than a light-driven map showing a day of flight's in the US? Be sure to explore different versions via the top right corner of the map.

Pitchfork Top 500 Tracks of the 2000s
I have a love/hate relationship with "best of" lists, rankings with seemingly arbitrary and largely unquestioned systems of measurement (*cough* US News College Rankings *cough*), etc. Sticking with the love side of things, some lists can help you discover new things. Such is the case with Pitchfork's most recent list-making endeavor in regards to music, especially since they instantly gratify your curiosity by providing the track for you.
Design for Dreaming
I first discovered this amazing short film courtesy of a super liberal artsy class, "American Attractions," a topical class that explored issues of national identity and leisure in the USA. It also should have won an award for being cross-listed as English, History, Film Studies, Gender Studies, and Cities. Design for Dreaming, an awesomely bizarre film created for the 1956 GM Motorama, covers all of this territory. And more.

Infinite Summer
A group of people decided to read David Foster Wallace's An Infinite Jest during Summer 2009. More than plugging the site, I wanted to share it because I think that it's a beautiful endeavor. (Found on Salon.com.)
Open Wide: Spoon-Fed Box Office Success
Yes, I like a light-hearted summer movies every now and then as much as the next person. However, most of the time, I want more than that. This article makes a case for those of us who crave intelligent flicks for hot August afternoons.
